Sorority Recruitment Round One at UGA
Share
Round 1:
If you're getting prepared for Round One of sorority recruitment—aka Panhellenic Preview—you might be feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Don’t worry, that’s totally normal! This first round is your introduction to Greek Life and sets the tone for the rest of recruitment. Here’s your go-to guide filled with real tips to help you feel prepared, polished, and most importantly, yourself.
What Is Round One?
This isn’t your typical face-to-face round. For this one:
You’ll submit a short introduction video to the Panhellenic Council.
You’ll also watch intro videos from all 20 sororities on your school’s eLearning Commons (eLC) starting July 15th.
This is like your virtual first impression—both sides are getting to know each other in a low-pressure way. Think of it as “Meet and Greet: Digital Edition.”
Filming Your Video: Tips to Shine
You're filming from shoulders up, so the focus is truly on your energy, expression, and personality. Here’s how to make it count:
1. Be Warm, Be You
Recruitment is about connection. When filming:
Smile! It makes a huge difference on camera.
Speak like you’re talking to a new friend—natural and upbeat.
Be honest about your interests.
2. Dress the (Top Half) Part
They’ll only see you from the shoulders up, so keep it simple and polished:
A casual dress or nice top works perfectly.
Avoid logos and busy patterns.
Choose colors that complement your skin tone and make you feel confident.
Light makeup and clean hair go a long way—just aim to feel put-together.
Here's some of our favorites for this round!
Time For Tea Puff Sleeve Dress White or Blue!
3. Lighting + Sound = Game Changers
Film in natural light (facing a window is best).
Avoid backlighting (don’t sit with a window behind you).
Record somewhere quiet—background noise can be distracting.
4. Practice, But Don’t Script
Jot down what you want to say—but don’t memorize.
Try a few practice takes to find your rhythm.
It’s okay to stumble a little; perfection isn’t the goal, authenticity is.
Watching Chapter Videos: What to Look For
When July 15 rolls around and you’re watching the chapter videos, keep these in mind:
1. Pay Attention to Vibes
How do they present themselves?
Do they seem energetic? Friendly? Academic? Philanthropy-focused?
2. Take Notes!
You’ll be meeting a lot of chapters—start a simple spreadsheet or notebook to keep track of your first impressions.
3. Stay Open-Minded
You might be surprised by which chapters you connect with most later on.
Don’t rely on reputation—rely on your own reactions.
Final Thoughts
Round One is all about first impressions, but don’t let that pressure you into being someone you’re not. The chapters want to get to know the real you, so let that shine through!
Recruitment is a process of mutual selection, not perfection. Show up as your kind, curious, confident self—and let the rest fall into place.
You've got this! 💗
